Playing a competitive sport doesn't have to be as serious and all consuming as it seems on TV or at a major event like the Olympics. Many people play on a sports team as a way of blowing off steam with friends, getting exercise, and learning a new sport. If you're thinking you might like to spend a little more time outside of your lofts, Toronto and other cities have plenty of options when it comes to recreational sports. Read on for some ideas on what you can do.
Community Teams
If you're choosing your sport and your league based on how close it is to your place at 18 Yorkville, the first thing you should check out is the calendar for your local community center. The community center often has leagues for adult, teens, and children in popular sports like soccer, basketball, hockey, tennis, badminton, curling, and even swimming to give the members of the community an outlet for their energies. Competition is usually friendly and it's a great way to meet like minded neighbors.
Minors
If you're looking for a little bit more of a challenge, you can go one step up and try out for a minor league. Minor leagues exist for all age groups and are on a higher level of competition than recreational leagues. You can't just sign up, you must try out and be selected. A minor hockey tournament will get the community out to cheer, however, and while players only rarely move on to larger leagues, it gives them an outlet for their fierce competitive spirit.
Intramurals
If you belong to a large, insular community like a school or the military or an exceptionally large office of Kingsway real estate agents, you might have an intramural league. Intramurals are teams formed from within the community or company which compete against one another. Universities often have quite interesting intramurals, going beyond the usual soccer and baseball into the realm of cricket, ultimate frisbee, and inner tube water polo.
Work Teams
If you'd like to combine your sporting efforts with getting to know your co-workers and making a good impression on your bosses, you should play on your company's team. Companies often have softball tournaments against another food PR agency in the same city, and your participation will not only give you some exercise but also help you bond with the people you work with.
